Using the Early Warning Score to Identify Oncology Patients at Risk for Deterioration (Acute and Critical Care SIG)

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The Early Warning Score (EWS) and its modified version, the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS), are used to identify patients who are at risk for clinical deterioration, but their application in oncology practice has been limited. Learn all about the implementation processes, successes, and challenges of these tools to determine if they could be an asset to your institution. You’ll also review literature supporting use and hear about the experiences of two major medical centers that have implemented these tools.

Objectives

  1. Identify the clinical components of the Early Warning Score and variations used in oncology practice.
  2. Describe how the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) has been implemented in oncology clinical practice.
  3. Give examples of the applicability of the MEWS tool in your current practice setting.
