Colorectal Cancer Screening Promotion Interventions for African Americans in the Community Setting (Prevention/Early Detection SIG)

Compared with other racial groups, African Americans have the highest colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence and mortality rates, coupled with lower screening rates. Community-based interventions may increase accessibility of CRC screening and improve screening rates. In this systematic review, you’ll examine an intervention application that uses community-based participatory research (CBPR) to promote CRC screening among African Americans and investigate the recruitment strategies used to increase participation these CBPR intervention studies.

Objectives

  1. Examine an intervention application that used the community-based participatory research (CBPR) method to promote colorectal cancer (CRC) screening among African Americans.
  2. Describe recruitment strategies among African Americans in these CBPR intervention studies.
