Using Benner's "Novice to Expert" nursing model, you’ll identify and discuss key competencies essential to the development of nurses new to oncology. Plus, discover how to take competent oncology nurses and bring them to the expert status. By reviewing novice to competence learning strategies, sample competencies, and evaluations, you’ll be ready to implement this model at your institution.

Objectives

  1. Describe Benner's “Novice to Expert” nursing model and apply key concepts to facility education plan.
  2. Identify key competencies essential to the development of nurses new to oncology.
  3. Evaluate key competencies as they relate to the development of competent oncology nurses to bring them to the expert stage.
