Increasing the Cancer Workforce With Patient Navigation

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Patient navigation is a team effort, and oncology nurse navigators play a critical role in improving the quality of care. The use of trained lay patient navigators to provide non-clinical support is gaining national attention, with oncology nurse navigators in a role to oversee this model of care. You’ll discover how a patient navigation process using oncology nurse navigators and lay patient navigators can improve patient outcomes, enhance access to quality care, help patients navigate the healthcare system, and improve the individual patient’s experience of care.

Objectives
  1. Understand the history of the Freeman model of patient navigation and how it influences patient navigation today.
  2. Gain knowledge on the training, tools, and competency requirements for patient navigation to be effective.
  3. Identify the role of oncology nurses when delegating navigation services to trained nonprofessionals and/or volunteers.
