Advocacy in Action: Implementing Shared Decision Making in Multiple Myeloma

In this 90-minute CE program, experts will provide education and tools that help oncology nurses understand the available clinical data and provide optimal care for patients with multiple myeloma within a shared decision making (SDM) framework. Joseph Tariman PhD, ANP-BC, Sandra Kurtin RN, MS, AOCN®, ANP-C, and Beth Faiman PhD, MSN, APRN-BC, AOCN®, will discuss how to engage patients and implement SDM strategies in your practice. Objectives
  1. Describe the application of shared decision making to the care of patients with multiple myeloma, including steps for implementation into practice.
  2. Discuss with patients and families the treatment options for multiple myeloma, including smoldering, frontline, and relapsed/refractory, as well as clinical trials and emerging therapies presented by the provider.
  3. Support patients and families in evaluating multiple myeloma treatment options, including associated adverse events and ongoing, proactive management based on their goals and concerns.
  4. Develop strategies to maintain the utilization of shared decision making by patients with multiple myeloma and the multidisciplinary healthcare team throughout the course of care.
